Being kind doesn’t always mean doing what’s expected. In fact, some of the best kindness is a little… unexpected. A little mysterious. A little weird.
That’s why we’ve put together five fun kindness experiments for kids who want to spread smiles in the most unusual (and wonderful) ways possible. You don’t need money or superpowers, just a big imagination and a heart ready to surprise someone with joy.
🎩 1. The Secret Note Ninja
📚 Mission: Leave a surprise note in a book, bag, or pocket where someone will find it later.
Write something kind, silly, or encouraging like:
- “You’re doing better than you think!”
- “This book thinks you’re brilliant.”
- “Psst… someone out there is lucky to know you.”
Hide it in a library book, a sibling’s lunchbox, your parent’s shoe—anywhere it can wait patiently to be found. No signature needed. It’s all about the mystery.
Why it’s wonderful: A secret kindness feels magical, like the universe sent a high-five.
🍬 2. The Kindness Trap
🎁 Mission: Set a kindness “trap” for someone using a small surprise.
Here’s how:
- Find a box, bag, or envelope.
- Put something inside, like a homemade card, a drawing, or a few sweets.
- Write a message on the outside like “You’ve been KIND-CATCHED!” or “WARNING: Contains Good Vibes.”
- Leave it somewhere someone will discover it, on a doorstep, at a bus stop, or outside a neighbour’s door.
Why it’s weird (but great): Most traps are scary. Yours makes people smile!
🧤 3. Sock Safari
🧦 Mission: Find lonely socks around the house and turn them into kindness creatures.
Decorate a clean sock with buttons, string, googly eyes, or fabric scraps to make a kindness monster or creature. Name it something amazing like “Snugglebeast” or “Captain Cozy.” Then gift it to someone who needs cheering up, or donate it to a charity shop with a note: “I’m a Kindness Creature. I’m here to help.”
Why it’s wonderful: You turn something lost or forgotten into something full of love.
📞 4. Kindness Time Machine
🕰️ Mission: Write a kind letter to your future self—or someone else’s.
Write something like:
- “Dear Future Me, remember how brave you were today?”
- “Dear Future You, I hope you still love cartoons and rainstorms.”
Seal it in an envelope and label it with the date to open—like 1 year from today. You can also write one for your parent or friend and give it to them later.
Why it’s wonderful: Kindness that travels through time? Epic.
🦶 5. Chalk Walk Surprise
🖍️ Mission: Use chalk to turn a footpath into a kindness trail.
Write cheerful messages like:
- “You’ve got this!”
- “You’re walking on awesomeness.”
- “Keep going, Kindness Explorer!”
Add arrows, doodles, or footprints to guide someone along the path. Just make sure it’s in a safe, public space where it won’t disturb anyone.
Why it’s weird (but brilliant): Most people expect pavement to be boring. You make it sing!
🌈 Kindness Can Be Weird And That’s What Makes It Wonderful
You don’t have to be loud, perfect, or serious to change someone’s day.
You can be weird. Wiggly. Wild. Unexpected.
You can be a Kindness Experimenter—always trying new ways to surprise the world with joy.
So… which kindness experiment will you try first?
And hey, if you invent your own weird kindness idea, we want to hear about it! Who says kindness has rules?
